INSTRUCTOR FOR STATISTICS AND DATA SCIENCE

Job Description

Sattler College is hiring a full-time instructor in statistics and data science. As an institution we value a classical education which is rich in analytical subjects that emphasize logic and problem solving. Statistics and data science is a required class taken by all students during their first semester. Beyond an understanding of the analytic skills, the logic skills that students gain by topics covered in this course will carry over into many other facets of education.

We are looking for a faculty member who knows how to inspire students to recognize the importance of analytic skills and logical application gained through statistics and data science. After taking this course, students should be able to appropriately gain insights from a data set without being misled.

This course covers the elementary principles of data description, hypothesis testing, and regression. It begins with an introduction to probability and random variables, then moves into statistics, and finishes with students using R to run practical analyses on data sets from medicine, elections, and business.

Faculty who have this role should have a strong quantitative background in a related discipline. The applicant must have a master’s degree or higher, though a doctoral degree is preferred. This is a full-time role and commences in the fall of 2018.

Finally, we especially seek faculty that can support the founding precepts of the College, harmonious with the beliefs of the historic Christian faith, listed on our webpage: http://www.sattlercollege.org/about/

The faculty member’s primary duty will be the instruction of assigned classes under the supervision of the Dean or direct supervisor. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the instructor must have the flexibility to be available for secondary duties and roles associated with College operations and growth and be committed to professional development. Since Sattler will often implement the inverted classroom, we are looking for an instructor that is willing to break traditional molds. The instructor will also emphasize and teach soft skills during time spent in the classroom. The faculty member must abide by and support policies set forth by Sattler College and must be committed to the College’s goals and objectives.

Applicants should email their CV and a cover letter of interest to: hr@sattlercollege.org
